Faith is often easiest when the waters are calm.
But life rarely stays calm for long. Storms come. Waves rise. Fear creeps in. And in those moments, it’s easy to forget who is really in control.
One of the most powerful miracles witnessed by the disciples happened on a dark and stormy night on the Sea of Galilee.
A Storm the Disciples Couldn’t Control
The disciples were experienced fishermen. They had spent their lives on the water. Storms weren’t new to them.
But this storm was different.
The wind was strong.
The waves were crashing.
And the boat was being battered by the sea.
Then something happened that none of them expected.
They saw someone walking toward them on the water.
At first they were terrified. Scripture says they thought it was a ghost.
But then they heard the voice they knew.
“Take courage. It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
— Matthew 14:27
Jesus was walking on the water.
The Miracle That Changed Everything
This wasn’t just a miracle of power. It was a reminder of something deeper.
Jesus was showing His disciples that the very thing they feared — the storm, the waves, the chaos — was completely under His authority.
The water that threatened their lives was simply the ground beneath His feet.
And then something even more incredible happened.
Peter stepped out of the boat.
For a moment, he too walked on the water toward Jesus.
Not because of his strength.
But because of his faith.
The Moment We All Recognize
Peter eventually took his eyes off the Savior and began to sink. And if we’re honest, that moment probably feels very familiar to most of us.
We start strong.
We believe.
We step forward in faith.
But when we look at the waves instead of the Savior, fear takes over.
Yet even then, Jesus reached out and caught him.
He didn’t let Peter drown.
Our Lifeguard Walks on Water
That miracle still speaks today.
The storms in our lives may look different—financial pressure, family struggles, uncertainty about the future—but the truth remains the same.
The One who walks on water is still watching over us.
